I have previously stated that I was a baseball obsessed kid. That was my favorite sport for so long - however I got quite into soccer as well. From the age of 5 or 6 to 16. As much as I loved baseball I loved soccer for a period of my life. I obsessively worked on my ball handling skills, and would do drills and train for on the field fitness. Not to brag (well for the sake of the story, I will) I could juggle the ball all day long - until I got bored, basically. I even wore out a patch in my parents lawn from juggling the soccer ball so much. My individual skills were ok, but my team play was lacking. I was more into the passing and strategy and the bigger kids could muscle their way through a game and win with aggression. I was quite small at the time compared to those kids that went through early growth spurts so gradually I was not as effective on the field. This was probably the impetus for starting an individual sport like running where I could control how much I trained and wasn't necessarily dependent on others actions to have a good performance.
This painting is of a pair of recent soccer shoes from the BSSC soccer league that I played in a few years ago. I bought a new pair of shoes for the league that Fall, and being thrifty I picked up a pair from a catalog that were almost florescent in color.
I painted this on my new @openboxm
easel!! You can see the still life setup to the left of the painting. 12x16" oil on panel. .
