Bondmates For Life 💙
▫️Companionship is important to rabbits. Whether the friend is human, cat, bird, rat, etc or best of all: another bunny!! Rabbits are wired to enjoy community so a solitary life (alone in an outdoor hutch for example) goes against nature. ▫️Bunnies love to have friends that "speak their language". The rabbit social hierarchy is best understood by other bunnies of course! ☺️
▫️Some bunnies are content to have a hoomin bestie - especially if the person is routinely at home during those important dawn and dusk/evening hours when bunnies become most active and desire attention. Amber 🌈 was very much a "people bunny" and seemed to prefer our company over other buns. ▫️Rabbits have unique personalities which makes bonding sort of like dating. Not every bunny is a possible match. Bunnies have preferences just like us 😀 Sometimes there is love at first sight and other times a bunny might find potential mates annoying, obnoxious, weird (resulting in fights that could cause serious injury). There are also times when bunnies have some kinks to work out but could become best buddies if their "dating" is supervised for a while. This is how Billie, Cameron and Devon started out. ▫️Bonding can take weeks or months. I've even heard of some that took years. Bonding Billie and Cameron to Devon took 5 months.
These are just a few things we've learned and we hope our experience is able to help bunnies and their people 💜
