Battling your mind.
I could dole out science to you all day long, but it will likely still only reverberate as radio static to anyone feeling "stuck." You know, the kind of stuck where you "know" what needs to be done, but getting to it either just feels too overwhelming (to the point of near-depression) or too dreadful (and so enters the screw-it attitude). Friends, let's get real about this: "stuck" is most likely a by-product of your thoughts; the more you entertain the derogatory thoughts about your body/achievements/etc. with derogatory self-talk, the harder it can be to pull yourself out and commit to the behaviors that bring change. But here's the cool part about controlling your thoughts--you have the power at any point to say "nope," packing up shop, and taking your thoughts down a positive path.
I think a lot of behavior analysts are quick to shy away from mental health, but I do feel that it's kind of short-sighted for us not to address it, especially with health and fitness. Be open; discuss your struggles and create an easy to execute plan. If you need help, I offer online fitness coaching. Contact me here or at the link in my bio 🍏🚴📈
