When Hawaii was getting set to ban Oxybenzone from sunscreen products, a few major manufacturers opted to remove the Oxybenzone from their formulas, and replaced it with a higher amount of Avobenzone, which many of them were already using in their formulas. Avobenzone has been considered safe for use by the FDA. However, while Avobenzone is safe to use on its own, how it reacts when exposed to UV light and Chlorine is of some concern!
Meanwhile in Hawaii, local sunscreen manufacturers have almost all switched over to completely biodegradable packaging, and none of them ever used any harmful ingredients in their formulas. In fact many locally manufactured sunscreens are non toxic and edible (although we don't reccomend that you try to eat them)!
