should I lift heavy weights if I want to lose fat?🤔
this post is dedicated to someone that told me they don't want to start doing weights before they lose fat on their arms💪🏼 you know who you are😝
A lot of people, specially girls, are scared of doing weights if their end goal is to lose fat/weight🤷🏻♀️ They think lifting is going to make them bigger or use the fat they have in their bodies to become stronger🙈
Hello people!! It does not work that way🤗 and I am sooo happy it doesn't haha What determines your weight loss or gain is you caloric intake. No matter if you are lifting 300lbs, if you are eating on a deficit, you ARE GOING TO LOSE WEIGHT👌🏼 .
Why do I recommend to do weights when you are trying to shrink down? Here are just a few reasons:
1️⃣Lifting weights and developing muscle mass accelerates your metabolism. This means that you will be burning more calories every day by just living. More muscle = more calories burned without even trying!
2️⃣Doing a bunch of cardio burns most calories AT THE MOMENT you are doing the cardio. Some studies suggest that HIIT cardio extends your caloric burn, but overall, this will only last a certain period of time. It is not a metabolic rate change.
3️⃣Lifting weights on the other hand, requires an extra calorie expenditure to recover the muscle. So it is not only the calories you burn during your workout, but the calories your body is using to recover from the muscle breakdown.
4️⃣How do you want to look when you lose the weight? skinny and flat? or actually have some curves? Losing weight alone won't give your body any shape, you need the weights for that! So keep that in mind when you are envisioning your end goal!
I personally NEVER stop doing weights😍 I can be bulking or cutting and weights will always be part of my workout. Routines and intensity can change depending on my goal, but you always want to keep your muscles engaged😎
Just make sure you are eating in a deficit and you'll be fine! Keep lifting🏋🏻♀️💕
