The best thing I ever did was picked up weights and learned to fuel my energy into becoming strong 💪🏼the next best thing from that was connecting with people on the same journey. Looks happy and “perfect” on outside.. REALITY ➡️ I was obsessed with food. Very restricted, clean eater. Only allowed myself to eat tilapia, chicken, oatmeal, eggs, broccoli, pb2, and quest bars. . . Of course I ate other foods when I binged, but I would purge that up. I was deep in my bulimia. . . I looked up how many calories to eat on Pinterest. (Spoiler alert: it was very low. I also exercised for AT LEAST 1-2 hours a day.) . . I remember having insomnia a few nights before this trip. I called my mom crying because I was worried I was “going to get fat”. I knew you burned calories in your sleep, and I wasn’t sleeping. . . These are just a few memories of a 1-2 month period of my dieting/ E.D days. I lived in a disordered Eating mindset for 10 years. . . Moral of the story: never judge a book by its cover. You never know how “healthy” or “unhealthy” and individual might be. . . But also keep in mind, you can radically transform your mind/ behaviors around food. I am in a completely different mind set now 💛 . . I don’t count calories. I don’t feel guilt. I don’t binge. I don’t obsess. . . I eat pizza AT LEAST once a week (probs closer to 2) I eat donuts once a week. They are NOT considered cheat meals. . . I go out to eat with friends. I don’t look up the calories before hand. . . I eat fast food. I eat candy. I eat salads. I drink green juice. I eat cheese burgers. I LITERALLY DO WHATEVER THE EFF I WANT AROUND FOOD AND IVE NEVER FELT SO..... FREE 🦋💛🤗 . . . . I share this because I believe THIS IS MY PURPOSE. My purpose was to HEAL myself, and now: to heal others. I love what I do. I love bringing women out of disordered, obsessive eating and into FREEDOM AND JOY ✨I wouldn’t trade this work for the world 💕 . . Whenever you’re ready, I’m here for you, too💛 -Melissa

You know that moment between deciding if you’re actually hungry or just tired? 😴 That’s me right now and considering I already had 3 nutritiously balanced meals and snacks today I know I am not actually hungry. I’m also going to bed soon so I especially don’t need additional calories (energy) to sleep. When I feel like this I make golden milk or you may know it as a turmeric latte❣️It’s soothing, warm, comforting and so good for you because of the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties 💥 . . What do you do when you’re looking to snack at night? . . P.S. Here’s the recipe👇🏼: - 1 cup unsweetened almond milk 🥛 - 1/4 tsp ground turmeric - 1/8 tsp ground ginger - 1/8 tsp ground cinnamon - A pinch of ground black pepper (*it helps with absorption*) — — 1. Heat over the stove until it begins to boil, stir, and then remove from heat before it bubbles over. 2. Enjoy as is or add 1 tsp of honey 🍯 to sweeten.

👨‍💻 That plan you go back to whenever you need to lose weight and get in shape? If it was a good plan, why do you have to keep going back to it? Why hasn’t it worked yet? — 🤚 And maybe the answer is that you really aren’t putting forth effort. But maybe the answer is that it’s a crap plan with 0% chance of sustainability. — 🍵 And let me tell you this, if it involves some detox or tea or smoothie diet....if involves long bouts of exercise that you hate....it won’t last. — 🤷‍♀️ So again, if it actually worked, why hasn’t it worked yet? Maybe you need a new plan. Maybe you need a different approach. It’s still going to require effort. But there is a plan out there that’s built for the long haul. Or you can just approach life this way as well ☺️😁 . Eating clean is needed. Enjoying yourself is needed. Staying active, weight training, and moving is needed. Enjoying life is needed. How can you do that without any balance or moderation? Learn to have discipline when you need discipline, and learn to loosen the reins when the situation fits. Homemade sourdough bread with mozzarella and tomato.. very tasty and very healthy. Great for a lunchtime snack.. good source of protein and fats. Buying sourdough can be a tad expensive so making your own, though requires practice is both cheaper and more gratifying. #fatmen. #reversedieting #dietingsucks

What does it mean to be completely free around food? . . First things first, I am not an expert. I do not know everything, but I do know a few things from my own experiences ... . . Feeling free around food is your natural state. When we were babies, food was easy. When we grow up and face diet culture/learned behaviors, food becomes complicated. We were all born with this natural state, therefore we can ALL get back to it. . . Feeling free around food feels like peace. You don't have to second guess anything. You free up a lot of your mind when you stop the dieting, restricting, over-analyzing every food choice- struggle. . . Feeling free around food can feel like a struggle sometimes. You want the freedom so bad, but sometimes you feel stuck. Sometimes, you slip up and want to return to dieting. That's ok, I think we've all been there. The struggle won't last long, so give yourself extra compassion with whatever you are dealing with. . . Feeling free around food means being at ease with your food and lifestyle decisions. You connect with the fact that sometimes you're gonna eat fast food, even though it makes your stomach hurt immediately after. Sometimes you're going to have a brownie for dinner, because you don't have a lot of food choices and you're starving. No matter what you choose, you know it will be ok. You don't feel the need to stress about it. You know you're body will balance back out into her normal state. . . Feeling free around food also means feeling free in your body. You listen to her more. You listen to her feelings, more. You listen to her desires, more. You just have the ability to tune in, more. . . These are just a few things that popped into my mind. If you've experienced food freedom, i'd love to know what it feels like to you <3 . . If you're on the verge of food freedom, I just want you to keep these things in mind <3 I know a lot of you may be tempted to diet, so I just want to bring you more peace of mind in whatever you are struggling with. . . If you wanna talk more about food freedom, always feel free to message me 💛

Something I failed to see with counting macros was that it is a restrictive diet. It’s sneaky because you can eat whatever you want... IF IT FITS your macros. If you aren’t “allowed” to eat what you want when you’re hungry or you’ll feel bad or guilty... it’s a problem. This is a diet that can bring a lot of peace at first and can turn into something just as unhealthy as Whole 30, paleo, clean eating, and any other disordered eating regimen that is sold as “health”. And think about it, why should you eat the same amount of calories when you expend a different amount each day?! My first clue that IIFYM was fucked up was when I had to drop my carbs on rest days. Why?! Just because I didn’t work out doesn’t mean I sat on the couch all day. Even if I did I felt like it was a punishment which became rest = bad. Then I wondered why I should eat the same amount if I just did a 4 hour hike?! The question becomes: are you controlling your food or is it controlling you? *Eats an avocado, pesto, feta, beet and egg toast as a🖕🏼to diet culture that brainwashes us to believe bullshit like “too much” fat is bad or that there isn’t enough protein in this meal*

Who do you need to be in order to have a healthy relationship with food? A Rebel. I know you are one already. Loving our bodies in a society that likes to sell perfect and preys on our flaws is an act of rebellion. Channel that inner rebel toward self love and eating food that feels amazing to you and away from breaking diet rules to a diet you never wanted to follow in the first place. A Believer. Escaping a system that doesn’t work starts by believing another way exists and you won’t stop until you find it. Bold. Be relentless in your pursuit. Stand up for yourself. Trust yourself. You know yourself best and are capable of living a life free from overwhelm and confusion. Self Full. Fill yourself up everyday, not every quarter when you are about to have a break down. It is much easier to refill a tank that is at 90 % then one running on fumes. You are not selfish if you take time for yourself. Your loved ones would rather get the over spill of all your joy then your short temper and resentment from not getting your needs met. You got this! It is in the bag. Are you ready?

#KuelWoman, Dr. Ellen Albertson, shares 10 ways to minimize the negative impact the Holiday Season may have on our waistlines. Don't put yourself on a diet! It'll stress you out, raise your cortisol, and cause you to binge eat. Instead, she suggests, to eat throughout the day, take more time during the meal (so your head and your stomach can sync up), and pre-decide what you want to eat to avoid mindless eating. Most importantly, if you over indulge, forgive and forget. Move on. You'll do better next time. #HolidaySeason #DietingSucks #KuelLife http://ow.ly/agfP30heakn

🤷‍♂️ Why eat carbs? Well, first, they’re delicious.... — 🤦‍♀️ In all seriousness, the point of this post is not to tell you that you have to eat a lot of carbs. There are people that have had long-term success on a low-carb diet and that’s awesome. But for most people, going low-carb for the long haul isn’t realistic. And the point I’m making is that although carbs often times get a bad reputation, they can serve an amazing purpose and you can reach your goals while eating a lot of them. — 🕺 Carbs give you energy and they help you build muscle. If you look back at my post about becoming a smaller pear by doing just cardio, you’ll see the case for adding resistance training into your routine. When protein is consumed at a proper rate and fat is under control, carbs can fuel you to have energy to be active. And have I mentioned that they taste amazing? — 🏃‍♀️ Carbs in-and-of-themselves are not the issue people have with their weight. Overall calories and macro ratios are the issue. If you think low-carb is the solution, I would just ask this: Can you see yourself sticking with it? Low-carb isn’t bad and people have been successful with it. But if you can’t stick with it, it will backfire. If you can’t see yourself sticking with it, then you need an approach where you eat carbs and put them to good use! — 📧 If you want more info about it or would like to talk about my Nutrition Coaching packages, email me at mark@discoverthefood.com. — #EatWhatFuelsYou #DoWhatFuelsYou #DiscoverTheFood

🍽 Tonight’s Dinner! Check it 👇 — 👀 Here’s what you’re looking at.... - 2 servings Whole Grain Penne Pasta - 4oz Chicken Tenderloins - 1 Cup Roasted Broccoli - 1 Serving Reduced Fat Shredded Cheese - 1/2 tbsp butter and 1/8 tbsp olive oil used in cooking — 👌 This was pretty easy to make. The pasta and chicken had been prepped a few days ago. I roasted the broccoli with a little olive oil tonight. So as it was finishing I heated up the chicken and pasta and then topped it with the broccoli and cheese. It was tasty and I was pretty full after eating it. Here are the numbers.... Protein - 52g Carbs - 87g Fat - 17g Calories - 709 — 💁‍♀️ Obviously you can adjust servings to fit your numbers. Burgers, Fries and BYOBeer. Awesome stuff Hawaii. The “Secret” to staying lean LONG TERM is to enjoy the F out of your food while understanding your limits. Then it won’t feel like you are on a DIEt. I see some of you doing restrictive dieting and extreme workouts and while you can get lean I guarantee you won’t stay like that long term unless you’re a professional athlete and its your job. But you get fat in the off-season so that’s not impressive. Nothing changes on vacation. What I do at home I do here. That’s my lifestyle. Work smarter not harder. #MightyTransformation #flexibledieting

Exactly how I felt when I decided to give up diets. 10 + years of disordered dieting thoughts and behaviors DID NOT make it any easier for me to “unlearn” everything I was used to. . . My comfort zone was counting calories. My comfort zone was carb cycling. My comfort zone was clean eating. My comfort zone was restrict, binge, restrict, binge. Dieting felt like the only thing I knew how to do, around food. . . Here’s the truth: it made me MISERABLE. Miserable and crazy. I didn’t wanna worry about food, I just wanted a life again. So what did I do? . . I decided to commit to something new. I decided to feel the fear, and to do it anyways. I felt the fear A LOT (that’s normal), but I wouldn’t change a thing for the world 💛 . . Feeling scared to give up diets? I know, I’ve been there too. But what’s scarier in my opinion? Spending another year feeling crazy around food and hating your body. . . Feel the fear, and do it anyways love 💕
